I believe you have time over the course of your life to reinvent yourself several times. Time to gain new skills and pursue new dreams. Over the course of the last year I’ve been meditating and praying on what is it that I want as we enter a new decade, with the realization that 2020 means perfect vision. What is my personal vision?
Looking back, I’ve had the career of careers. My flagship salon has existed in the heart of Beverly Hills for almost 20 years. I’ve seen more businesses come and go than I can truly remember. I also ran a partner salon in NYC for 10 of those years.
I’ve been a question in the board game Trivial Pursuit and the game show Jeopardy, all about being The Eyebrow King.
I’ve done business deals with Oprah, Disney, Columbia Pictures, Fox, and OPI. I was the international face for MAC Cosmetics’ Brow Collection and starred in a global hit TV series 10 Years Younger on TLC.
I’ve seen my name in magazines and newspapers in every language, and can truly say without exaggeration that my hands have worked on the most famous faces in the world... period.
Basically what I’m saying is I did the damn thing and that box is now checked off!
I heard the great producer Norman Lear say recently that everything in life has an over and next. One can’t pursue their next, until they close their over.
I’ve made the decision to downsize my space, to increase my elevation.
I will be closing the Damone Roberts Beverly Hills Salon on December 31st, 2019.
First quarter 2020 I will be opening Damone Roberts: A Beauty Therapy Lounge, a much more intimate space for me and my clients to engage. More details to follow as we get closer to an opening date. In the interim I will be doing brows in Beverly Hills at Nelson George. The salon number remains the same. All appointments will still be honored, along with your VID purchases. Your favorite brow accoutrements will still be available on Amazon and DamoneRoberts.com throughout this process.
To be completely honest, I’m scared to leave my familiar but also extremely excited. Failure is not an option, and fear denounces faith. Real faith is when everything inside you is telling you to doubt yourself, but you make the decision to move forward anyway. Success is defined by a lack of fear of moving forward. I’m in a time that demands I feel, float and work my way through the mire to get to the promised land. It’s either innovate or stagnate. Courage is the willingness to take the required steps necessary to access the version of yourself you were always intended to be.
I don’t know what exactly this next chapter holds, but I know it’s more than this. I believe the sky is not the limit: the sky is just the first level. I’m gonna dare to choreograph the life I desire.
